Opportunities Skyrocket at Trade Meeting
Mark Wine of the Missouri Department of Economic Development told of several opportunities for local businesses at the recent Northland International Trade Assistance Group meeting. |
The Northland International Trade Assistance Group confirmed a significant increase in activity at its July 14 meeting.
Plans for trade missions to Edmonton, Canada, and China as well as a review of the successful Bio Tour confirmed that the region is increasing opportunities for local companies interested in international trade. Still another opportunity includes a visit that was scheduled July 30-Aug. 1 by a high-tech Chinese firm that specializes medical research and product development.
Held at the Hilltop at Briarcliff, the July 14 meeting included an update by Missouri Department of Economic Development representatives, including International Business Manager Yan Li and International Trade Manager Mark Wine. Wine noted that the Northland efforts are among several successes in Missouri, which saw a 29 percent increase last year in international trade.
Among recent developments is the Missouri Trade Initiative, which brings together private sector and federal, state and local government resources in order to develop an international expansion proposal for businesses that will serve as a roadmap to increase their exports to international markets. He noted outgrowths of this and other programs include projects to make it more affordable for small businesses to pursue international trade opportunities.
The officials also noted a large number of upcoming events, including the trade missions.
With both options there will be no booth fee, show registration or fee for services. With option No. 1, companies would be responsible for their own travel costs. For more information, contact Krista Zurkamer, (573) 645-8219 or e-mail krista.zurkamer@ded.mo.gov.
